Of course, there is one thing that I look forward to that comes before Thanksgiving. It starts with an M, and ends with "essiah". I'll let you try to figure out what it is.
Recently, I've started to hum, sing, and play the Messiah. It is such a masterpiece! The music is fantastic, and the words, of course, are great since they are straight from Scripture. Of course, the selections of the passages is perfect - it gives you a great summary of the Gospel. Here are all 43 passages in order (complete passages, not just the parts that are in the Messiah):
This first section is more the advent section, with passages that foreshadow Christ.
Isaiah 40: 1 - 3
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith
your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto
her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity
is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord's hand
double for all her sins. The voice of him that crieth in
the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make
straight in the desert a highway for our God!
Every
Valley Shall be Exalted

mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Thus saith the Lord
Haggai 2: 6,7
For thus saith the Lord of Hosts; Yet
once, it is a little while and I will shake the heavens,
and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will

come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the
Lord of Hosts.
Malachi 3: 1
Behold, I will send my messenger, and
he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye
seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the
messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, He
shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts.
But who may abide the Day of His Coming?
Malachi 3: 2
But who may abide the day of His coming?
and who shall stand when He appeareth? for He is like a
refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
And He shall Purify
Malachi 3: 3
And He shall sit as a refiner and
purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi,
and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer
unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give
you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a
Son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Arise, shine; for thy light is come,
and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth
Isaiah 60: 2,3

come to Thy light, and kings to the brightness of Thy
rising.
The people that walked in darkness
Isaiah 9: 2
The people that walked in darkness have
seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the
shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

For unto Us a Child is born
Isaiah 9: 6

Zechariah 9: 9,10
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh
unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and
riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the
horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off:
and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his
dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the
river even to the ends of the earth.
Then shall the eyes of the blind
Isaiah 35: 5,6
Then the eyes of the blind shall be
opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then
shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out,
and streams in the desert.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd
Isaiah 40: 11

he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in
his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with
young.

esteemed him not.

face from shame and spitting.
Surely He hath borne our griefs
Isaiah 53: 4,5
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and
carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our
transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the
chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his
stripes we are healed.
And with His stripes we are healed

Glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory.
Unto which of the angels said He at any time

company of those that published it.
How beautiful are the feet

And how shall they preach, except they
be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of
them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad
tidings of good things!
Their sound is gone out
Romans 10: 18
But I say, Have they not heard? Yes
verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their
words unto the ends of the world.
Why do the nations so furiously rage together?
Psalm 2: 1,2

His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.
Revelation 19: 16
And He hath on His vesture and on His
thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORDS.
And finally comes Easter and the Gospel!
I know that my redeemer liveth
Job 19: 25, 26
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and
that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And
though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my
flesh shall I see God.
1Corinthians 15: 20
But now is Christ risen from the dead,
and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
Since by man came death
1Corinthians 15: 21, 22
For since by man came death, by man
came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam
all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Behold I tell you a mystery
1Corinthians 15: 51, 52
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall
not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment,
in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the
trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
The trumpet shall sound
1Corinthians 15: 52 - 54
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,
at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the
dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be
changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption,
and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this
corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be
brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.
Then shall be brought to pass
1Corinthians 15: 54
So when this corruptible shall have put
on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on
immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying
that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death where is thy sting?
1Corinthians 15: 55 ,56
O death, where is thy sting? O grave
where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the
strength of sin is the law.
But Thanks be to God
I Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God, which giveth us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
If God be for us
Romans 8: 31, 33, 34
What shall we then say to these things?
If God be for us, who can be against us? Who shall lay
any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that
justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that
died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the
right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Worthy is the Lamb
Revelation 5: 12, 13
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the
Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and
wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth,
and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all
that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour,
and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the
throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
Amen
All powerful passages! I can't wait to start singing the Messiah again. We are incredibly blessed to have talented people like Handel who can so well supplement Scripture with music!
For now,
Casey
Handel's Messiah!!!!! As you know, I too have been engrossed in the musical world of the Messiah! I believe it to be one of the greatest works of all time. God's word being sung makes me think of the angles glorifying the Father in heaven! God certainly worked through Handel to create a masterpiece proclaiming His majesty. I am really looking forward to singing it with y'all this year!
