Isaiah 11:1-10
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and
a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest
upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and
might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And his delight shall
be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide
disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth
with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the
wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt
of his loins. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie
down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf
together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze;
their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child
shall put his hand on the adder's den. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my
holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the
waters cover the sea.
In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal
for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall
be glorious.
Isaiah 40:3-5
A voice cries: "In the wilderness prepare the way of
the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall
be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall
become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be
revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has
spoken."
Isaiah 9:2-7
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those
who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined. You have
multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as
with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. For the
yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you
have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in
battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the
fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall
be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and
of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to
establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this
time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Luke 2:1-20
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that
all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when
Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own
town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to
Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the
house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was
with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And
she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and
laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the
field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord
appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were
filled with fear. And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I
bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto
you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And
this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths
and lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude
of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among
those with whom he is pleased!"
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the
shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this
thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." And they
went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And
when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning
this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But
Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the
shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen,
as it had been told them.
Zechariah 9:9-10
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter
of Jerusalem! behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having
salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a
donkey. I will cut off the chariot from
Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and
he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and
from the River to the ends of the earth.
John 1:29-30
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said,
"Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he
of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was
before me.'
Isaiah 53:3-12
He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and
acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was
despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he has borne our grief and carried our sorrows; yet
we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for
our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the
chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have
turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of
us all.
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not
his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that
before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and
judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he
was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my
people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his
death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.
Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him
to grief; when his soul makes an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring;
he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Out
of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge
shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and
he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the
many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his
soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of
many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
Psalm 24:3-10
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand
in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift
up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive
blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is
the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King
of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the
Lord, mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O
ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!
Revelation 19:6
"Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.”
1 Corinthians 15:21-23
For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the
resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all
be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15:54-58
"Death is swallowed up in victory." "O death,
where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?"
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But
thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Revelation 5:12-14
"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and
wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!" And I heard
every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and
all that is in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne and to the
Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!" And the
four living creatures said, "Amen!" and the elders fell down and
worshiped.
Merry Christmas everyone!
